KHOU TEXAS: Day care van driver, owner charged in crash that injured 16 children

HOUSTON – A day care van driver and the owner of the facility were charged in a crash that injured 16 children and two adults in north Harris County Monday.

The driver, Conception Coronado, was driving a van from Alpha Kids’ Center around 3:30 p.m. when she ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck in the 10000 block of Gulf Bank near Beltway 8, according to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies. She was ticketed for running a red light.

The children on board, all between the ages of 6 to 12, were returning from a field trip. They were all transported to the hospital as a precaution, but released with minor injuries.

The owner of the facility, Darryl Freeman, was also charged for allowing the transportation of students without restraints and excessive amount of passengers in the van.

Coronado and Freeman were both charged with injury to a child/ criminal negligence.
