A basketball is surrounded by candles that burn into the night at the site of a Highway 8 memorial to the Boys in Red.

(Bathurst, NB - January 10, 2013) - A candlelight vigil tomorrow evening will mark the fifth anniversary of a horrific crash that took the lives of a teacher and seven teenaged boys from the Bathurst High School Phantoms basketball team.

The vigil will be held at the site of a memorial on Highway 8, near Route 11 in northern New Brunswick, that was created in the aftermath of the tragedy. The memorial has become a permanent reminder of the eight lives that were lost on January 12, 2008: Javier Acevedo 17, Codey Branch 17, Nathan Cleland 17, Justin Cormier 17, Daniel Hains 17, Nikki Kelly 15, Nicholas Quinn 16 and Beth Lord.

Family and friends and the community are welcome to attend this quiet, respectful remembrance of the lives lost five years ago. The gathering begins at dusk on Friday, January 11, 2013 with the lighting of candles which will continue to burn into the early morning hours of  Saturday, January 12.

The VanAngels group will not be taking any interviews and asks the media to respect this request.
