Ottawa Citizen: Nine children hurt as school bus, truck, pickup and SUV collide

Paramedics emphasized that none of the injuries was considered serious.

Eleven children were treated for non-life threatening injuries after a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Leitrim and Hawthorne roads late Tuesday afternoon.

Ottawa Paramedics said they treated 11 students, aged 11 to 17, at the scene. One youngster suffered a head injury and two others suffered facial injuries. Three others received minor bumps and scrapes in the 4:10 p.m. collision involving the bus, an SUV, a pickup and a flatbed truck.

The bus was carrying about 30 students from Franco Cité school.

Paramedics emphasized that none of the injuries was considered serious. The 11 children were taken to Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario as a precaution. The remaining students were taken to a nearby location while their parents were called to pick them up.

The drivers of the pickup and the flatbed were treated for minor neck and back injuries.

Hawthorne Road was closed for about two hours.
