No one was injured after a small school bus carrying children slid into a ditch north of Peterborough on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m along Lakehurst Road in the municipality of Trent Lakes, just north of the Gannons Narrows Bridge.

Ten school children from nearby St. Martin Catholic Elementary School in Ennismore managed to safely get out through the rear emergency exit after the bus ended up on its side.

The driver was also not injured.

Peterborough County OPP say the bus was almost at a complete stop when the shoulder of the roadway suddenly gave way.

“The bus slowly slid down into the ditch and then onto its side,” said Const. Greg White.

Police say there was minimal damage to the bus.

No charges will be laid.
